BKC Teacher Training Centre постоянно растет и развивается. Его возглавляет директор по образованию (DOS - Director of Studies). В разное время на эту должность приглашались высокопрофессиональные специалисты, одновременно являющиеся тренерами кембриджских курсов CELTA, DELTA, сертифицированные Кембриджским университетом. Имея солидный опыт преподавательской деятельности и работы с преподавателями, параллельно работе на курсах ДОС курирует работу по повышению квалификации преподавателей компании, разрабатывает новые программы, руководит подготовкой регулярных методических семинаров.

Для проведения курса Сambridge CELTA приезжает второй тренер. ВКС приглашает тренеров преимущественно из Англии, Австралии, а также из Европейских стран. В основном это тренеры, которые имеют постоянную работу в других Кембриджских Центрах и приезжают в Россию для проведения тренинговых программ. Кембридж приветствует обмен опытом между своими центрами и поощряет их руководство предоставлять возможность своим тренерам два - три раза в год работать в другом центре. Таким образом, поддерживается унифицированность программы и высокий профессиональный уровень курсов по всему миру; завязываются дружеские связи между центрами, идет активный обмен опытом между специалистами. Тренеры, работавшие в ВКС Тeacher Training Centre, неизменно высоко отзываются об организации компании в целом, многие из них регулярно возвращаются в качестве приглашенных тренеров.

Кроме того, одним из важнейших направлений Центра является подготовка тренеров из числа наиболее опытных преподавателей, работающих в компании. Центр поправу может гордиться, что благодаря солидной методической базе, многолетнему опыту работы и высокому уровню преподавания, он сумел подготовить тренеров, которые успешно проводят курсы по обучению и повышению квалификации преподавателей английского языка.

Интервью с тренером

Один из постоянных тренеров на курсе Cambridge CELTA, которая сотрудничает с компанией ВКС практически с основания ТТ центра, Су Коллинз (Sue Collins), согласилась ответить на наши вопросы и дать комментарии о развитии и причинах роста популярности курса Cambridge CELTA в России.

Су Коллинз имеет дипломы Master of Arts (London) (Магистр гуманитарных наук), M Cog Sc (Hons) (Магистр Прикладной Лингвистики, диплом с отличием) RSA Dip TEFLA (с 1998 года переименован в Cambridge DELTA - Diploma in English Language Teaching to Adults - Диплом преподавателя английского языка взрослым).

Более двадцати лет Су Коллинз готовит преподавателей английского языка как иностранного в разных странах мира: Испании, Японии, Италии, России, Великобритании и Австралии. С1981 года Су Коллинз представляет Кембридж в качестве эксперта-консультанта, инспектирующего курсы Cambridge CELTA по всему миру.

— Why do you think CELTA is so popular with EFL teachers?

— The CELTA is the most widely recognised pre-service qualification in TEFL. People know that a syllabus set by Cambridge entails rigorous standards and a high quality of training; the course has a good reputation in countries in all parts of the world, and so it is easier to get a job if you have the CELTA.

— Is it correct to say that CELTA is getting more and more popular with Russian teachers of English?

— I think so. Russian teachers are dedicated and committed to excellence, And they want to make sure that they are keeping up with methodologies currently used in other parts of the world.

— Many Russian teachers of English think that it is more difficult for non-native speakers to do a CELTA course successfully than for native speakers. Is it really so?

— The statistics show that Russian teachers generally do better on a CELTA course. This is because their knowledge of grammar and their general language awareness tends to be deeper and broader than native speakers. The challenge for Russian teachers lies in making their classes more student - centred.

— What do you think the goals of Russian teachers of English who decide to take a CELTA course are?

— Generally speaking, these teachers are often well-trained when they come onto the course, and they have qualifications from Russian universities and pedagogical institutes. Often, they are seeking an internationally-recognised qualification, but at the same time they want to improve their classroom skills and knowledge of English.

— We know that many native speakers who wish to become a TFL teacher come to Moscow to receive CELTA. Why do you think they choose courses in Russia and not at home (in Britain, the USA, Canada)?

— Candidates who choose to do their CELTA in Moscow tend to be Russophiles. Many have studied Russian at some time- perhaps at university; or they have some strong attraction to Russian culture. Some people are drawn to Moscow by Russian friends or partners. In any case, they want to gain a qualification which will allow them to live and work in Russia for a time.

— What personal qualities should a CELTA course trainee have?

— Good time management and organisational skills are essential. You need lots of energy and stamina. Trainees also need to have very good language awareness, and language learning experience helps a lot. A positive attitude, tolerance when things don't work out as expected, openness and an ability to accept and respond to criticism is very important. Trainees who like to work in a team and help and support each other generally enjoy the course more. You also need to be able to learn quickly and to process information rapidly and effectively. Unfortunately, there isn't time on the course to go into interesting side issues. It's like learning to ride a bicycle- a course in bio-mechanics won't help you. You need to get on and start peddling!

— How difficult is it to get the grade "A" on a CELTA course? And how often do trainees get this mark?

— It is not impossible to get a Pass "A", but this is reserved for the most gifted trainees and those who consistently perform at the highest standards across the course. Perhaps about 3 or 4 in every 50 trainees might achieve this grade.

— What is the hardest thing about a CELTA course?

— Getting everything done! Meeting deadlines and writing really good lesson plans, and executing them effectively in the time available! You should also be prepared for set-backs when a lesson doesn't work out as you planned. Remember that not everyone passes the course.

— Who would you advise to take a CELTA course?

— People who are really motivated to teach English and who are really interested in language and how it works (ie grammar, functions, pronunciation and vocabulary). You should also be genuinely interested in receiving feedback on your lessons and how to improve your teaching.

— Is it correct to say that the majority of trainees successfully pass CELTA?

— Yes. Most people do achieve a Pass grade.
