I am interested in applying for a position in Moscow. However, I have heard from other teachers that the students can be aggressive and that Moscow is not the safest place to wander around in. Any opinions?

I've been teaching English for about 5 years now and have never come across any aggressive behaviour. Russians are mostly very keen on learning. When they come to school after work tired they can be a bit abcent-minded, they tend to be shy if they lag behind the group and need encouragement. I was surprised to see that so few people spoke English in the shops, but they were so cooperative and inventive to offer help! I've heard from some teachers working with teens that they can be too much playful and forget about what for they where in the classroom, but nobody ever noticed evel intentions.

Whoever told you that does not know what he/she is talking about. I've been teaching here for 3 years and I have not had nor heard of any problems with students. On the contrary, students end up complaining about their boozing, unprepared teachers! And Moscow is safer than most large American cities.
If you want to work here, by all means come. Don't let advice like that stop you.

what??? 'aggressive' students??
now that's funny.
do NOT go over to russia with this belief in mind

russians are gentle, fun, balanced, hard-working, (more of than not)-disciplined people.

Russian students are some of the most motivated guys I've taught. As for Moscow, it's a fantastic experience - it can be unsafe but only if YOU put yourself in an unsafe situation. Get to know the Russians and try not to hang out in the ex-pat ghettos!
