Subject: Learning Russian/Teaching English
Author: Peter
Hi,
I have just graduated in Maths in England, English my native tongue. I really want to learn Russian but don't have a lot of spare cash, so was thinking of teaching English as a way of supporting myself in Russia. I don't have any language qualifications except English (Lang & Lit) GCSE's.

Does anyone have any advice on the most cost effective way of getting some sort of TEFL certificate (if needed) and getting a job, possibly doing a course in Russian before/during my stay?

Thanks, Peter.

Dear Peter,

BKC-IH Moscow has Russian classes and there is a discount for teachers of BKC. However due to our affiliation agreement with International House and school policy we are only employing people with the recognized qualifications in teaching English as a foreign language, such as CELTA, Trinity TESOL or equivalent.

If you are interested in obtaining a CELTA qualification you can attend the
course in Moscow.

We have an experienced teacher-trainer in residence, Sue Collins,
Cambridge/RSA CertTEFLA, Cambridge/RSADipTEFLA, MA (TESOL), MPhil(App.Ling.) and we have been regularly running CELTA and
DELTA courses for the past eight years.

CELTA course dates for 2005:

12th September - 7th October
17th October - 11th November

The course is conducted four weeks at our school in the centre of
Moscow, and includes 6 hours of supervised teaching practice and 8 hours of
observation of experienced teachers.

Teaching positions might be offered to trainees who achieve good passes.

Information on BKC-IH Moscow and essays written by teachers who have worked for BKC can be found on our web site (English page) www.bkc.ru/eng

Course fee: GBP 880 including the Cambridge registration fee and
deposit.

If you are interested in applying for one of the courses, please, let us
know and we will contact you immediately.

Please don't hesitate to contact our Teacher Training Centre to get more
info about CELTA courses by e-mail: t-training@bkc.ru, or by fax
7-(095)-234-03-16.

We look forward to hearing from you.
